“This One Became Personal"
Media journalists and production personnel cover a lot of stories,
see a lot of life and encounter a vast array of human situations
most of us would never experience. Every once in a while a story
or project gets beyond the veneer of a professional title and has
a lasting impact on the person.
Mike Leonard and his family worked closely with Fr. Robert Barron
on his Catholicism Project. It is a series of ten videos focusing
on an understanding of the Catholic Tradition. The Leonard's and
Fr. Barron travelled to many parts of the world creating and taping
this award winning series. It has been viewed on PBS stations around
the country and has been seen by tens of thousands of people. It
is becoming one of the best media presentations on Catholicism ever
developed.
For Mike Leonard, raised as a Catholic, it has become one of those
"jobs" that got beyond his professional veneer and impacted
his personal life and faith.
Mike Leonard is an acclaimed filmmaker and a veteran feature correspondent
for NBC’s Today show. He also is the producer of the popular
public television series The Ride of Our Lives: Roadside Lessons
of an American Family based on his New York Times best-selling book
by the same name. Mike is known for his unique and creative stories
on everyday life. His family's company, called Picture Show Films,
co-produced Catholicism. Picture Show also has produced critically
acclaimed television shows and specials for PBS, ESPN and other
major media outlets, plus videos for corporations and nonprofit
agencies. Mike received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics
in 1970 from Providence College in Rhode Island where he played
for the varsity hockey team.
Mike has four children, five grandchildren and lives in Winnetka
with his wife, Cathy. Together, Mike and Fr. Barron spent two years
